Term 2 - Are all farmers being treated the same?
English
In Term 2, we’re excited to dive into some creative writing in English! We’ll kick things off by crafting a humorous story based on the book “The Incredible Book-Eating Boy” by Oliver Jeffers. We’ll start the story together as a class, and then each student will get the chance to finish it on their own. It’s all about letting their imagination run wild! Later on, as Christmas approaches, we’ll switch gears to write persuasive adverts for Christmas pudding. It’s going to be a great term full of creativity and fun!
Maths
In our maths lessons, we’ll be focusing on addition and subtraction, especially with three-digit numbers. We’ll be using the concept of exchange quite a bit, so it’s essential to remember that ten tens make a hundred, and ten ones make a ten. We’ll also introduce some formal methods for adding and subtracting, known as column methods. Place value is really important in this, so I encourage you to help reinforce this at home! In class, we use Dienes blocks often, which help us understand numbers better the children will be able to draw these to help them. We’ll also start learning multiplication and division methods, such as arrays, grouping, and sharing. A secure grasp of the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, and 8 times tables will benefit them greatly, so using Times Tables Rockstars for practice is a great idea! .
Science
In our science lessons, we’re diving into the fascinating world of animals, including humans! We’ll explore how to keep ourselves healthy and fit by understanding how our muscles work and what we can do to make them stronger. It’s important to learn not just about our own bodies, but also about how to care for our pets and keep them healthy too.
We’ll be taking a closer look at skeletons, discovering the vital roles they play in our bodies and why they’re essential for our movement and support. By understanding our own systems and those of the animals around us, we’ll gain valuable insights into maintaining good health for ourselves and our furry friends.
Big Question
In our geography lessons, we’re learning all about fair trade and farming! This term, we'll explore where our food actually comes from, from the fields to our plates. It’s important to understand the journey our food takes and the people behind it.
In Design and Technology, we’ll be getting hands-on by creating our very own sandwiches. But it’s not just about the bread and fillings; we'll also be looking at how to make responsible choices by selecting fair trade or sustainable ingredients. This way, not only will we enjoy delicious food, but we’ll also be supporting ethical practices and the environment. By the end of these lessons, the children will have a better understanding of the impact our food choices have on the world around us.
