Term 3 - Do we need leaders?

English

This term we will be writing an explanation based on the book 'The Street Beneath my Feet'  This will link closely to our Science topic of Rocks. We will also be writing some poetry based on 'I asked the little boy who cannot see' The children will be focusing on their descriptive writing for this topic.  We will continue to work on the Y3 statutory spellings as well as consolidating spelling rules from Year 2- there will be weekly spellings for your child to practise! 

 

Reading

In reading this term the children will be exploring the book 'Pebble in my Pocket' again a gentle link to our Science learning of rocks. The children will use VIPERS skills to answer questions relating to this book.

Maths

In maths, we will be continuing with multiplication and division. We will recap strategies learnt and then move on to multiplying and dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers using visual representations (not the formal method just yet!) We will then move on to length and perimeter. In addition to this, we will also be continuing to learn out 3, 4 and 8 times tables as well as consolidating the 2s, 5s and 10s. 

Science

In Science this term we will be using scientific investigation to learn about 'Rocks'. We will look at the 3 different types of rocks: Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic. We will discuss why different rocks are used for different purposes. The children will learn all about the rock cycle, ask them to sing you the rock cycle song! We will then expand on this and look closely at fossils and how they are formed, leading to further learning about soil.

Wider Curriculum

Our topic this term is ‘Ancient Greece’ We will begin by learning who the Ancient Greeks were and when they lived. We will learn about daily life for adults and children and compare it to our lives today. We will learn about the importance of religion to Ancient Greeks and about some of their Gods and Goddesses.

Our PSHE is all about safety. Keeping ourselves and others safe ans what to do if we find ourselves in an emergency.

 Richborough will be learning essential swimming skills at Stacey’s Swim School, please ensure that they have their swimming costume/trunks, towel and swimming hat every week.  Lewes await their turn next term.
