Term 1- What secrets lie in the depths of the ocean?
English
In Term 1, we will be reading 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson. The book follows young Jim Hawkins as he discovers a pirate's treasure map, embarks on a dangerous sea voyage, and faces the treacherous Long John Silver in pursuit of hidden gold!
In Writing, we will be writing an adventure story, looking at the story of Kensuke's Kingdom, followed by a speech inspired by the plastic pollution found in our oceans.
Maths
This term, we will exploring and developing our understanding of place value to 10 million, the four number operations, factors and multiples, and primes. The children will build upon their year 5 knowledge whilst taking on new concepts such as long division and cubed numbers.
Big Question Lessons
Our Big Question lessons this term will have a geography focus, looking at the names of the 5 main oceans across the world and how we use them, as well as exploring the great barrier reef. We will also be looking at the impact humans have on our oceans and what we can do to look after them, which will include a field trip to discover the impact our plastic use has.
Science
For science, we will be identifying and naming the main parts of the human circulatory system, and the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. We will also explore the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function.
